Imani Winds offers a concert program to honor and inspire: Frederic Rzewski's work is dedicated to the memory and legacy of John Hope Franklin, the distinguished scholar of African-American history who taught at UChicago; Vijay Iyer's piece was partially influenced by the Trayvon Martin incident; recent Pulitzer Prize winner Henry Threadgill's new work reflects his time in Chicago and a civil rights theme. The Chicago Community Chorus - Sinai Ensemble and pianist Cory Smythe join Imani Winds for this special concert.
6:30 PM pre-concert talk with Travis Jackson, Henry Threadgill, and Imani Winds.
Supported by the Center for the Study of Race, Politics, and Culture.
