What’s in a name? Everything, it would seem, for 27-year-old singer and composer Jazzmeia Horn. The young vocalist from Dallas began turning heads not long after she made the move to New York in 2009, but by the time she won the 2015 Thelonious Monk International Vocal Jazz Competition, she had the jazz world’s entire attention. Horn’s debut album for Prestige Records, A Social Call, garnered her first Grammy nomination, and she has since been enchanting audiences around the world with her dazzling vocal chops and ingenious takes on jazz standards.
In her Chicago debut at the Logan Center, Jazzmeia is joined by pianist Victor Gould, bassist Barry Stephenson, and drummer Henry Conerway III in a set of American Songbook favorites and distinctive new original compositions.
