Cantigas of Santa Maria
"A moment full of emotion, bearing a message of
love, friendship and tolerance."
-LE MATIN DU SAHARA (CASABLANCA, MOROCCO)
Three internationally known ensembles unite in this unique
program that recreates the musical, poetic and spiritual climate
of 13th-century Iberia when Jews, Christians and Muslims existed
peacefully together in the court of King Alfonso X. Using
the king's magnificent collection of songs to the Virgin Mary,
contemporary musicians blend European and Arabic performance
techniques around these Christian songs.

CHICAGO DEBUT
 |
In the fall of 1995, a few college friends gathered together
on the campus of St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota.
Their objective — to spend a few moments away from the
rigors of college life doing something they enjoyed: singing.
Since that first rehearsal six years ago, Cantus has become
a full-time, professional ensemble, now gaining recognition
as one of the finest male vocal ensembles around. With a repertoire
that spans many periods and genres, they will sing everything
from Gregorian Chant to spirituals. Be among the first to discover
the group that is leading the pack.
