CTA #6 Jackson Park Express (formerly Jeffery Express)
A quick way to get to and from downtown, the Jackson Park Express follows Lake Shore Drive north to downtown, then makes several stops on Michigan Avenue up to Wacker Drive. It follows a similar route to Hyde Park, taking State Street south instead of Michigan Avenue. A one-way ride takes approximately 30 minutes.

Where to catch it in Hyde Park:

  • Stony Island Avenue (between 60th Street and 57th Street)
  • South Hyde Park Boulevard (between 56th Street and East Hyde Park Boulevard)
  • Lake Park Avenue (from East Hyde Park Boulevard to 47th Street)

When to catch it:
The #6 starts running early. The last bus back to Hyde Park leaves the Loop at around 1:00 am Monday - Saturday nights and 12:30am Sunday nights.

By El Train

From the Red Line:
Red Line “el” trains can be caught at Clark and Division, Chicago Avenue, State and Lake and State and Jackson, downtown. Exit at the 55th St./Garfield Stop. Cross the street and transfer to the #55 bus eastbound. Exit at Woodlawn. Mandel Hall will be 2 blocks south; Rockefeller Chapel, 4 blocks south.

By Metropolitan Rail (Metra)
Web: www.metrarail.com
Phone: 312-836-7000

Metra offers commuter train service between various suburbs and downtown. Metra's University Park line runs right through Hyde Park. The main depot is at Randolph Street and Michigan Avenue.
Many long-time residents consider Metra the fastest, safest, and most comfortable way to get to and from the Loop. A one-way ride takes about 15 to 20 minutes.

Where to catch it:

  • Downtown at Randolph and Michigan
  • South Lake Park Avenue at 57th Street (transfer point)
  • 59th Street and South Harper Avenue
