The Concert de l’Hostel Dieu was founded in 1992 in Lyon, France, by Franck-Emmanuel Comte, then a student at the Lyon Conservatory (CNSMD).
The ensemble excels in performing the Baroque repertoire, from established standards to forgotten works. Indeed, since its inception, the Concert de l’Hostel Dieu has been committed to rigorous academic work, showcasing Baroque manuscripts acquired from prestigious libraries.
In the 2000s, the ensemble established a strong reputation in France and abroad, through numerous concert tours. The Concert de l'Hostel Dieu has given more than 1,700 concerts in 15 different countries.
The ensemble recorded a first CD in 1997 (Alceste/G.F. Handel), which was followed by more than 20 other recordings. Released in October of 2020, La Francesina/G.F. Handel, received numerous accolades from the international press, and was named “Disc of the Year 2021” by the International Classical Music Awards in the category of “Baroque Vocal”. In 2025 the CD "The Ghosts of Hamlet" is praised by the international press.
In 2025, Franck-Emmanuel Comte became artistic director of La Trinité (Lyon), which presents a concert season dedicated to early and irregular music. He is also artistic director of the J.S. Bach International Music Centre in Saint-Donat and the Mont Blanc Baroque Festival.
