Violinist Rachell Ellen Wong is a dynamic and versatile performer, equally at home in both Baroque and modern violin repertoire. In 2020, she made history as the only Baroque artist to receive the prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant. Known for her technical virtuosity on gut strings, expressive musicianship, and understanding of historical performance, she has earned international critical acclaim and a devoted following. The New York Classical Review praised her as the “most approachable virtuoso.”
Rachell has performed as a soloist across six continents and collaborated with renowned ensembles including the Academy of Ancient Music, Jupiter Ensemble, Bach Collegium Japan, The English Concert, among others. On modern violin, she made her solo debut at age 11 with Philharmonia Northwest, and has since appeared with the Seattle Symphony, Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra and The New World Symphony. She is also on faculty at the Valley of the Moon Music Festival in Sonoma, California.
Recent appearances include performances with Camerata Pacifica, Ilumina Festival (São Paulo), The Cong Quartet (Hong Kong), the Kronberg Festival, and the Rome Chamber Music Festival. Rachell is the co-founder of Twelfth Night, an ensemble she leads with conductor and keyboardist David Belkovski. Since its founding in 2021, the group has been featured at Carnegie Hall, Cal Performances, Caramoor, Chatham Baroque, Arizona Early Music, San Diego Early Music, Friends of Chamber Music Kansas City, and maintains a regular presence with Early Music Seattle.
Winner of the inaugural Lillian and Maurice Barbash J.S. Bach Competition, Rachell holds degrees from the University of Texas at Austin, Indiana University and The Juilliard School, where she was a Kovner Fellow. Originally from the Pacific Northwest, she lives in New York City with her two bunnies.
