Live music, especially chamber music, is for all of us a special source of connection, inspiration, and comfort. That is what makes it a challenging, but necessary, decision to cancel UChicago Presents' concerts through May 15, 2020. At a time when many around the world are grappling with disruption due to a global health crisis, we are deeply saddened not to be able to offer the concerts and performances that unite and inspire us. However, in light of the current public health situation and in accordance with University, city, state, and CDC guidance, we feel that is the responsible decision for the health and wellbeing of our community. We hope to reschedule all canceled performances for an upcoming season.
Affected concerts include:
- Melissa Aldana Quintet: Visions for Frida Kahlo (April 5)
- The Boston Camerata: The Night's Tale (April 17)
- Montrose Trio (April 24)
- Plena Libre (May 3)
- Vijay Iyer and guests: Ghosts Everywhere I Go: The Arches Project (May 15)
Ticket holders to concerts on April 5, 17, 24 and May 3 and May 15 may request a refund of their purchase. Ticket holders also have the option to contribute the value of their tickets as a tax-deductible donation to UChicago Presents.
Many now are grappling with the long-term effects of the current situation; likewise, UChicago Presents is having to consider the long-term financial impacts on our artists and our organization. If you are able, we ask that you consider donating the value of any tickets you have to these performances, or consider making a direct financial contribution to support the continued presentation of performances that leave their mark on us. We are committed to ensuring that we can continue to enjoy world-class performers at ticket prices that are merely a fraction of the actual cost of the concerts, and we are grateful for your help preserving this integral part of our mission.
For ticket donations, please email BoxOffice@uchicago.edu and provide your name, the concert(s) you have tickets for, and note that you would like to donate the value of your tickets.
For refunds, please call the UChicago Arts Box Office at 773.702.ARTS (2787), Monday-Friday between 10 am and 6 pm.
The deadline for refunds and donations is Monday, April 6, 2020. Any tickets that have not been refunded at this time will be converted to donations to UChicago Presents.
The 2020/21 season remains unaffected at this time, and patrons can continue to renew and purchase new subscriptions for the 2020/21 season online (new subscribers online), by phone (773.702.ARTS (2787)), or by mail.
