A Night in the Gardens of the Tang Dynasty

The world's premier virtuoso of the ancient Chinese lute-like instrument the pipa collects a world-class ensemble  to explore the music of the Tang Dynasty, drawn from original manuscripts researched from the period and including a new work inspired by the period. Before the concert, Wu Man will join Assistant Professor of Music Anthony Cheung for a talk from the stage about her life and music.

Screening and Discussion of Discovering a Musical Heartland: Wu Man's Return to China

Wu Man explores ancient Chinese musical traditions in her documentary Discovering a Musical Heartland: Wu Man’s Return to China. The film documents Wu Man’s expeditions through China’s remote regions as she unearths ancient musical traditions that are in danger of being lost among the more popular musical trends in the country today. The audience is invited to join Ms. Wu for a reception before the screening at 5:30 pm.
