Philadelphia-born pianist and composer Uri Caine – whose Passion of Octavius Catto will be performed in April 2021, is a musician of extraordinary imagination, one who bridges traditions of classical and jazz to bring pivotal moments in history to life through music. In October, Caine joins Associate Professor of Music Travis Jackson, whose musicological work engages with research and theory in urban geography, economic development, and race, for a conversation on the life of the nineteenth-century Black voting rights activist Octavius Catto and the ways music can give life to history and be an instrument of social change.
