Health and Safety

The University's efforts to promote a culture of health and safety:

The University is committed to maintaining the UChicago community’s distinctive academic and intellectual qualities and values, while working to protect the health of students, faculty, other academic appointees, postdoctoral researchers, staff, visitors, and our broader community. In close collaboration with public health experts and UChicago Medicine, we promote a wide range of health and well-being practices, and we’re committed to creating a campus culture focused on shared responsibility for protecting the health and safety of every member of our community.

A key objective is to protect the health of students, faculty, staff, and visitors to the University. We rely extensively on guidance from the University of Chicago Medicine (UCM), which has some of the world’s leading experts in infectious disease and maintaining public health.

We act in accordance with the guidelines of public health agencies at the federal, state, and local levels.

Campus visitors and COVID-19:

A visitor’s decision to be present on campus and/or in University facilities serves as their acknowledgment and acceptance of the potential risks posed to them by COVID-19. Visitors and vendors are required to follow the University’s COVID-19 guidance applicable at the time of their visit.

Before you visit, have you:

  • Reviewed the CDC’s Precautions for People with COVID-19
  • Conducted a personal health assessment on the day of your visit and prior to visiting
  • Packed a face covering and hand sanitizer to use if needed.
